Tuesday Intro and Teaser Tuesday 15th September

First Chapter, First Paragraph, Tuesday Intros is hosted by Bibliophile by the Sea where bloggers share the first paragraph or two of the book they are currently reading/thinking about reading soon. Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
 Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Ann:
The Talisman Ring
Tuesday Intro:
"Sir Tristram Shield, arriving at Lavenham Court in the wintry dusk, was informed at the door that his great-uncle was very weak, not expected to live many more days out. He received these tidings without comment, but as the butler helped him to take off his heavy-caped driving-coat, he inquired in an unemotional voice: "Is Mr Lavenham here?""
This isn't the most exciting of openings but it sets a stage and an atmosphere. Also I've always wanted a butler.

Teaser Tuesday:
"Only his eyes were very much alive, startlingly dark in his waxen face."
This is such good imagery and also really quite creepy.

Clare:
These Shallow Graves
Tuesday Intro:
"Josephine Montfort stared at the newly mounded grave in front of her and at the wooden cross marking it."
The first chapter seems to be a scene from later on in the book so it's quite mysterious. I received an e-arc from Netgalley of this book and it's due for release 27th October. I will have my review up closer to that date.

Lair of Dreams (The Diviners, #2)
Teaser Tuesday:
"But dreams can't be contained for long. Their natural trajectory is forward. Out. Up. Away. Past all barriers and borders. Into the world. This is true of nightmares, too."
This actually sounds kind of nice out of context but it's quite sinister in the book. I have just finished Lair of Dreams and I loved it, I have posted my review and you can find it here if you are interested, but basically it was incredibly well written and the creepy elements were very creepy (although not quite as creepy as the first book).

You can also find us on Goodreads (Ann and Clare) and on Twitter (Ann and Clare) to keep up with what we are reading

  1. All of these books sound soo good! I haven't read any Georgette Heyer yet but one of my friends studied her books at uni! These Shallow Graves sounds really creepy which will be great as we get closer to Halloween! And the cover for 'Lair of Dreams' is simply beautiful! Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have a great week!

    1. Really? I can't imagine studying Georgette Heyer! I love her books but studying them would be weird! These Shallow Graves wasn't nearly as creepy as I was hoping although it did have some scary moments. Lair of Dreams is the one to go for if you want a creepy Halloween read! It was wonderful. Thanks for visiting

  2. Both intro books sound good! I have a couple of Georgette Heyer's books on my shelf (haven't read them yet) and enjoyed another book by Jennifer Donnelly. Happy reading.

    1. I highly recommend Georgette Heyer, they're really quick reads as well! I would love to read some more of Jennifer Donnelly because I've heard great things! Thanks for visiting

  3. Meyer is an author I've been meaning to try. I think I'd read a bit more before deciding if this one is for me.

    1. Oddly the book itself is quite funny, but the opening paragraph does make it seem a little more dry doesn't it? Thanks for visiting

  4. I've never considered what it would be like to have a butler. A maid or cook, yes. But never a butler. I like the intro of the first book. I haven't read anything by Heyer, but I know her books are quite popular. I'd be interested in giving her a try at some point.

These Shallow Graves sounds intriguing! I will have to look for that one.

I plan to read Lair of Dreams hopefully before the year is out. I've heard great things about it.

  6. It would take me a while to get used to the formal writing style in The Talisman Ring, but I think I'd enjoy the story. The Teaser grabbed me more than the opening.
I'm wondering who is buried in These Shallow Graves and the person's relationship to the character. I'm not sure about Lair of Dreams. It may be too eerie for me.

    1. Lair of Dreams was very on the scary side so if that's not your thing it might not be a good read for you - although I did love it and highly recommend it in general. Heyer's books are actually not that formal in writing style much as the opening paragraph seems to suggest otherwise! And the prologue of These Shallow Graves was really great and mysterious! Thanks for visiting

  7. All three of these books, though quite different, are appealing to me.

    1. I know, right? I swear the last few chapters were more of an intro to book three and it's so frustrating cause I just know it will be ages till we get it! I did enjoy These Shallow Graves although it slightly disappointed me and suffered from an annoying main character. Thanks for visiting

  9. Ah soo many good teasers!

I've been meaning to check out Heyer, apparently she is the queen of HR! haha. And I need to re-read The Diviners and get onto Lair of Dreams asap. And I've been hearing a lot of good things about These Shallow Graves, might need to check that out, too! Thanks for sharing, guys!
