Top 5 Rainy Day Reads

Top 5 Wednesdays are hosted by Lainey and you can find the goodreads group here if you're interested in taking part! My Rainy Day reads are ones I turn to whenever I am feeling especially stressed out and really need something familiar or comforting to turn to so they do happen to be mostly classics and childrens books!

1) The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery
The Blue Castle
This really could have been any L.M. Montgomery book - as a redhead I've always had a soft spot for Anne especially! But I read this one for the first time last year and was blown away by how much I ended up loving it. Since then I've wanted to re-read it multiple times.

2) Madam, Will You Talk by Mary Stewart
Madam, Will You Talk?
There is something endlessly comforting about Mary Stewart books. They are primarily mysteries and this one definitely is but they don't lose any of their charm or excitement on re-reading. I've re-read all my Mary Stewart books too many times to count but this one is possibly my favourite.

3) Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)
Possibly kind of an obvious one. I started reading Harry Potter when I was five and the last film came out when I was eighteen so it spanned basically all of my childhood and teen years. I have three copies of the first book and two of all the others and I re-read them at least once a year.

4) Little Town on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder
Little Town on the Prairie (Little House, #7)
I was fascinated by these books when I was a child and, along with Gilbert and Anne from Anne of Green Gables, this series contained one of my all time first favourite book couples. I never seem to read these in order - I always just pick up whichever book most appeals to me at any one time.

5) Vanity Fair by William Thackeray
Vanity Fair
This is one for when you're trapped in a storm for days because it is a big book! But I love the complexity of the characters and I remember picking this up in the library intending to read a couple of sentences and then still being there hours later!

Bonus Pick: Any Georgette Heyer
The Grand Sophy
I've had days where I am so stressed that I just grab a stack of Georgette Heyer books, curl up and forget everything else. It's my ultimate cure for stress!

So those are my rainy day picks, let me know in the comments what some of your picks are or leave a link if you have a top 5 post! Thank you for visiting!

You can also find us on Goodreads (Ann and Clare) to keep up with what we are reading
