Wednesday Catch-Up 12th October 2016

Every Wednesday we are linking up with WWW Wednesday. WWW Wednesday is hosted at Taking on a World of Words and asks 3 questions: What are you currently reading?, What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you'll read next?

Ann:

Currently Reading:
Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2)
I am currently reading Crooked Kingdom which I wasn't planning on reading next but after finishing Six of Crows I couldn't help myself, however hopefully I will have finished it soon, and I am loving it so far!

Recently Finished:
Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1)

I have recently finished reading Six of Crows which I loved so much and has to be one of the best books I have read this year. I loved that it was from the point of view of the 'villains' instead of the typical heroes. Also I loved Kaz!

Planning to Read Next:
Conquest (The Chronicles of the Invaders, #1)EmpireDominion (The Chronicles of the Invaders, #3)
Next I am planning on reading Conquest and Empire as we were sent a copy of  Dominion for review, and in order to read Dominion I need to read the first 2 books!

Clare:

Currently Reading:
A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2)Do You Want to Start a Scandal (Spindle Cove, #5)
I've started A Court of Mist and Fury and I am only about a hundred pages in - I'm finding that it's a slow read for me so far. Not a lot is happening but there's a lot of hints towards more action later in the book and I am definitely loving Maas's writing, it's good to be back with these characters! Because this was proving a slow read I also decided to pick up Do You Want to Start a Scandal by Tessa Dare. This is the fifth book in the Spindle Cove series and is certain to be a quick and fun read.

Recently Finished:
This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity, #1)
The only book I read this week was This Savage Song by V.E. Schwab and I really enjoyed it. It was intense and dark and the characters were all compelling. Schwab's writing is so beautiful and this did end on a bit of a cliffhanger so I am definitely excited for the second book in the series!

Planning to Read Next:
Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass, #5)The Young Elites (The Young Elites, #1)Murder at the Brightwell (Amory Ames Mystery, #1)
Next up I am planning to read Empire of Storms, the fifth and penultimate book in the Throne of Glass series. I love these characters so, so much and I just know that is going to be an epic read. I am then planning to start The Young Elites by Marie Lu, I really want to read The Midnight Star soon after it's released so I am reading the first two in anticipation. And finally, I would really like to read Murder at the Brightwell by Ashley Weaver which I am hoping is a great Christie-esque mystery novel.

You can also find us on Goodreads (Ann and Clare) to keep up with what we are reading

  2. I'm really glad you're enjoying the Six of Crows duology so much, Ann. It's terrific!

And I'm very happy you enjoyed This Savage Song, Clare. I'm looking forward to the second part of the story :-) I enjoyed A Court of Mist and Fury more than Empire of Storms (it does pick up eventually!). I'll look out for your thoughts when you finish.

Thanks for visiting my WWW (https://clairehuston.wordpress.com/2016/10/12/www-wednesday-12th-october-2016/) and happy reading!

    1. I have been hearing some disappointing things about Empire of Storms, which is a shame, but I am trying not to go in expecting to be disappointed! I know ACOMAF will pick up eventually and once it does I know I am going to love it! I picked up Do You Want to Start a Scandal so I can feel good about finishing something!

    1. I just put ACOMAF down and I am feeling kind of stunned - and very desperate for the next book which is a whole year away! Definitely recommend them!

  5. I'm sorry A Court of Mist and Fury is slow going for you. I've heard mixed things about the series, people seem to either love it or dislike it.

I loved This Savage Song, too, it's one of my favourite reads this year! I liked ADSoM but I didn't get into it as much as everyone else seemed to. TSS more than made up for it!

Don't get me started on Bardugo's duology, I'd rave your ears off.

    Happy reading! :)

    1. It was a slow start for me but only because I really hate Tamlin - once we really got into the story it was amazing and I am completely in love with it!
This Savage Song was great - I haven't read ADSoM yet but I am probably going to once the series is complete!
I have been raving everyone's ears off about Bardugo's duology for about a month now so I wouldn't worry!

  9. I really want to get my hands on Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom. I only just realised it's a duology, so the thought of actually reading a complete series is rather exciting! (I always start them when there's still a book or two to go).

I am in the minority that wasn't a fan of This Savage Song, but I am glad it worked for you, Claire! :)

    1. I generally wait for series to be complete because I hate cliffhangers! The anxiety drives me mad! I read Six of Crows last year and the wait for Crooked Kingdom was torture!
It's a shame you didn't enjoy This Savage Song, Schwab's writing seems to be a love it/hate it kind of thing!
