Sunday Post 31st December 2017

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted at Caffeinated Book Reviewer, it's a chance to post a recap on the past week, show the books we have received and share what we plan for the coming week. Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality and the aim is to show our newest books and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops or downloaded on to their e-reader.

Sorry I've been absent for the last couple of weeks. I wrote a whole bunch of posts and then forgot to schedule them... which I only realised long after I could do anything about it. We are now moved into the new place and it's great! It already feels like home, we are currently doing the most important job - organising books! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are looking forward to a Happy New Year!!

Books We Got This Week:

For Review:
City of Masks (Somershill Manor Mystery #3)The BarrowfieldsHappyland: A Fairy Tale in Two PartsElemental Claim: War of the Myth Book One
City of Masks by S.D. Sykes: Sent to me by the publisher, I am super excited for this because it is set in Venice which is my favourite place I've ever been to!
The Barrowfields by Phillip Lewis: Sent to me by the publisher, This looks dark and intriguing. I love the cover!
Happyland by Tes Mekonnen: Sent to me by the author, this looks incredible. Some Alice in Wonderland vibes from the artwork and the story sounds so unique!
Elemental Claim by Miranda Grant: Sent to me by the author, this sounds like exactly my kind of read and I am excited to read it soon!

Gifted:
Daughter of the Burning CityAlex and Eliza (Alex & Eliza #1)
Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody: Ann gave me this for Christmas, it was one of my favourite books of the year so I am thrilled to have the paperback!
Alex and Eliza by Melissa De La Cruz: I love Hamilton so I am nervously excited for this, this was a Boxing Day present from Ann!

Reading Update:

Everless (Untitled #1)
Everless by Sara Holland: In the past two weeks I've only managed to read one book (turns out moving home takes up a lot of your time) but it was a really good one. I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Everless at YALC this year and was kinda nervous to read it because it sounded a little cliché. But it managed to walk the line between tropey and original fairly well. You've still got a lot of the YA fantasy regular plot points but you also have really good world building and a good writing style. For me it was the best of both but if you really dislike the YA tropes then this might not be for you.
