Sunday Post 9th July 2017

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted at Caffeinated Book Reviewer, it's a chance to post a recap on the past week, show the books we have received and share what we plan for the coming week. Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality and the aim is to show our newest books and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops or downloaded on to their e-reader. As always you can click on any of the pictures to be taken to the Goodreads page for that book if you're interested in finding out more about it or click the title to go to the review.

Last Week on the Blog:

  • Monday Highlights #13
  • Wednesday Catch-Up
  • Ann's June Wrap Up and July TBR
  • Clare Reviews: Summer at Hope Meadows by Lucy Daniels

Books We Got This Week:

Ann:

For Review:
Two Hundred Very Short StoriesThe Things We Learn When We're Dead
Two Hundred Very Short Stories by Helen Keeling-Margston: I read the first few stories and am now extremely excited to read it! There is currently a giveaway for this on Goodreads if you live in the UK and are interested!
The Things We Learn When We're Dead by Charlie Laidlow: This is another book that I am very excited to read, I really love the cover and am intrigued by the blurb. I will probably be reading this very soon!

Clare:

For Review:
The New World: The TimeBomb Trilogy: Book 3Lost and Found Sisters (Wildstone, #1)
The New World by Scott K. Andrews: This is the third book in the Timebomb series which I am very excited to read! I've been getting more into Sci-Fi lately and this sounds like an incredible series.
Lost and Found Sisters by Jill Shalvis: I mean - it's Jill Shalvis so I'm already certain it's going to be incredible. Plus - sisters! I love sister relationships in books!

Zoella Book Club 2017:
GirlhoodThe One Memory of Flora BanksOrbiting JupiterThe Start of Me and You
Girlhood by Cat Clarke: I've only read one other of Clarke's books but really enjoyed it so I am excited to dive into this one!
The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr: The blurb of this gave me a very "50 First Dates" vibe when I first read it! Since then I've seen a few mixed reviews but I'm still very intrigued.
Orbiting Jupiter by Gary D. Schmidt: I haven't heard a huge amount about this book actually but I love the cover and it does sound interesting.
The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord: This sounds... potentially quite heartbreaking. Which makes me nervous because I am a total wimp and cry at everything. But it does sound good so I'll just have to push through the tears.
History is All You Left MeMoxieLetters to the LostAfter the Fire
History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera: My first Adam Silvera book! I've heard so much about his books and it's kind of surprising it's taken me this long to get one of them! Hoping to read this very soon.
Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu: The book in this selection that I am most excited for. This sounds like a total girl-power book and it looks incredible!
Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer: ANOTHER tear-jerker by the sounds of it. I'm just going to be crying constantly through these books probably. But hopefully it will be worth it.

Purchased:
MaestraA Promise of Fire (Kingmaker Chronicles #1)Lost For WordsThe Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue
Maestra by L.S. Hilton: SO many controversial and mixed reviews for this one. It sounds like a very Marmite book but it interests me and I've heard so much about it that I can't resist it!
A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet: I've been wanting to read this since it was released so when I saw it in the Works three-for-£5 offer I kinda had to.
Lost For Words by Stephanie Butland: Books about books are a general weakness for me. And the cover looks so charming and cosy.
The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee: I've already read this and absolutely adored it!
Women & Children FirstThe AffairNo Place For A LadyThe Secret Wife
Women and Children First/The Affair/No Place For a Lady/The Secret Wife by Gill Paul: Women and Children First and The Secret Wife are ones I've been wanting to read for a while. I hadn't heard of the other two but since they had all four in The Works I decided to take the risk.
Deep Blue (Waterfire Saga, #1)Rogue Wave (Waterfire Saga, #2)Dark Tide (Waterfire Saga, #3)Sea Spell (Waterfire Saga, #4)
Deep Blue/Rogue Wave/Dark Tide/Sea Spell by Jennifer Donnelly: I love mermaids (generally more the murderous type from pirates of the caribbean than the little mermaid variety if I'm honest) but have yet to read a great mermaid book. But I already know and love Donnelly's writing so I have high hopes for these!

Reading Update:

Ann:
Eliza and Her Monsters
Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia: 4 stars, I really enjoyed this book, although it took me a while to read cause I was in a bit of a reading slump but overall I really liked the characters and the plot.

Clare:
Seven Days in SummerFire in You (Wait for You, #6)Deadly Silence (Blood Brothers, #1)The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue
Seven Days in Summer by Marcia Willett: 2 stars, There was just nothing super interesting about this book unfortunately. I never got attached to any of the characters and the plot bored me.
Fire in You by Jennifer L. Armentrout: 2 stars, Just a really unhealthy relationship honestly. The characters were interesting but I could never get past how uncomfortable their interactions or his behaviour made me.
Deadly Silence by Rebecca Zanetti: 2 stars, ANOTHER unhealthy relationship. This one was more obvious but also annoyed me more because the plot actually was really good and interesting. But when the hero threatens to hit the heroine I just cannot get behind that romance.
The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee: This is over 500 pages and I read it in one night. One Night. Because it's incredible and fast paced and the characters are amazing and their relationships are to die for. I can't wait for the next one!
The Ultimatum (The Guardian, #1)What Goes Around
The Ultimatum by Karen Robards: 4 stars, Just so in love with Bianca right now. She was badass and compelling and unique. I did have some problems with the pacing because I felt like the first section moved really fast and then the rest of the book slowed down dramatically but it was a good start to the series and I definitely want to continue!
What Goes Around by Julie Corbin: 3.5 stars, Deeply twisted which I enjoyed (what does that say about me I wonder?) but the "big twist" wasn't as big as it thought it was.

Next Week on the Blog:

  • Wednesday Catch-Up
  • Clare Reviews: What Goes Around by Julie Corbin

  1. Orbiting Jupiter looks interesting, I had to click over and check that one out. And The Start of Me and You looks cute too.

I totally agree about mermaids, I like the edgier ones too (that Pirates of the Caribbean scene was awesome) so I'd be really curious to know if those mermaid books are good. Awesome covers too especially Deep Blue.

    1. I don't think these mermaids are going to be super edgy unfortunately but they do look interesting anyway! And I also love the covers!

  7. I totally agree with your thoughts on Fire in You and Deadly Silence!! I really struggled with both of those because I didn't want the heroine to end up with either of those douche canoes! Ugh!
Hope your other reads are great!
