Friday Reads 1st April 2016

Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice, the idea is to grab a book, turn to page 56 (or 56% in an e-book) and find any sentence (no spoilers!) and then post it. Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are currently reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence and impressions about the book.

Ann:

Burn for Burn (Burn for Burn, #1)Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3)A Tale of Two Cities
I am currently reading Burn for Burn which I found on Clare's book case and it sounded good. I love revenge books! I am also reading City of  Bones which me and Clare are doing a read along of this month. Then I am reading my classic for the month which is A Tale of Two Cities which I am really enjoying so far. And of course I am continuing the Lunar Chronicles with Cress by Marissa Meyer.

Book Beginning:
'The morning fog has painted everything white. It's exactly like one of my rabbit-hole dreams, where I get trapped, suspended in a cloud, and I can't seem to wake myself up.' - Burn for Burn

Friday 56:
'She definitely wouldn't have noticed if we left, not with the attention Derek was giving her.' - Burn for Burn

This book beginning I like because I love the description of the clouds and everything else it is just such an amazing book beginning.

This Friday 56 is not amazing with the descriptions but it shows the characters are sneaky, so it was the best quote I feel I could have gotten from the 56th page without spoilers!

Clare:

Spy's Honor (Hearts and Thrones, #2)Barchester TowersCity of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)
I am currently about halfway through Spy's Honor by Amy Raby. By this point I was enjoying the first book more but I do like Rhianne as a character and I am interested to see how things will resolve. I am starting my April classic read today which is Barchester Towers by Anthony Trollope which I am excited for and me and Ann are also going to be re-reading City of Bones together. Since I haven't read it since the very first time I read it I am interested to see what I think of it now!

Book Beginning:
"In the latter days of July in the year 185-, a most important question was for ten days hourly asked in the cathedral city of Barchester, and answered every hour in various ways - Who was to be the new bishop?" - Barchester Towers

Friday 56:
""There are reasons those stories exist. They're based in fact, even if mundanes think they're myth. Shadowhunters have a saying: all the stories are true. Although," he added, "to be fair, you mostly find zombies farther south, where the voudun priests are.""What about mummies? Do they only hang around Egypt?""Don't be ridiculous. No one believes in mummies." - City of Bones

The book beginning sets up the whole premise for Barchester Towers. It's not something I'd usually be intrigued by but I enjoyed the first book a lot and my Mum is always recommending Anthony Trollope so I am interested to give it a go.
I really like this Friday 56. All the stories are true (one of my favourite book quotes) except for mummies - because that's obviously ridiculous. Zombies and demons sure but mummies? No way.
