Sunday Post 8th November

The Sunday Post STSmall_thumb[2]
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted at Caffeinated Book Reviewer, it's a chance to post a recap on the past week, show the books we have received and share what we plan for the coming week. Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Showcase Sunday is hosted by Books, Biscuits and Tea and the aim is to show our newest books and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops or downloaded on to their e-reader. As always you can click on any of the pictures to be taken to the Goodreads page for that book if you're interested in finding out more about it.

Books We Got This Week:
Clare:
To Catch a Rake (The Rake's Handbook, #3)A Gentleman's Game (Romance of the Turf, #1)Rachel's Secret (The Rachel Trilogy #1)Alice Takes Back Wonderland
To Catch a Rake by Sally Orr: I didn't realise until after I'd requested this on Netgalley that it's actually the third in the series but it should still be good to read as a stand-alone since regency series' are usually just companions. Or I might see if I can download the first two.
A Gentleman's Game by Theresa Romain: I don't usually request regency romances for review, since I find it so hard to write the reviews for them but I was drawn to these two so fingers crossed I can write a coherent review.
Rachel's Secret by Shelly Sanders: I received this through Netgalley. I have been feeling more in a Historical fiction mood lately so this sounds great.
Alice Takes Back Wonderland by David D. Hammons: I received this for review from the publisher Curiosity Quills and I am very excited for it. I am a complete sucker for anything Alice in Wonderland related so this should be great.
Truly, Madly, Famously (Famous in Love, #2)Texts from Jane Eyre: And Other Conversations with Your Favorite Literary CharactersHotel Ruby
Truly, Madly, Famously by Rebecca Serle: I have always loved Rebecca Serle's books in the past. I have a copy of the first book but I was waiting for this to be released before reading it because I heard there may be a cliffhanger!
Texts from Jane Eyre by Mallory Ortberg: This has the potential to be really funny and I feel like I need that at the moment.
Hotel Ruby by Suzanne Young: I really loved The Program duology. This has received mixed reviews so far but I am hoping I will enjoy it!

Reading Update:
Ann:
I didn't manage to read anything this week because I went back to school after half-term break and I didn't have a lot of time. I am currently reading Bloodlines by Richelle Mead which I am really enjoying.

Clare:
Despite reading a lot this week I only wrote two reviews. Which was bad of me since next Wednesday I am going away for a week with no access to my computer so I may not be able to write reviews next week either! Although of course I will try.
A Dangerous Love (Swanlea Spinsters, #1)A Notorious Love (Swanlea Spinsters, #2)After the Abduction (Swanlea Spinsters, #3)Dance of Seduction (Swanlea Spinsters, #4)Married to the Viscount (Swanlea Spinsters, #5)
A Dangerous Love by Sabrina Jeffries: 3 stars, I do love a good masquerade. But oh, misleading title - where was the danger!?
A Notorious Love by Sabrina Jeffries: 3.5 stars, Ironically more dangerous than book 1. I actually preferred both the characters here and the whole kidnap plot was very good.
After the Abduction by Sabrina Jeffries: 3 stars, The writing in this series is not as assured as her later ones but I'm still really enjoying them.
Dance of Seduction by Sabrina Jeffries: 3 stars, I feel like I've read this story, or something similar before. Which may be because I have actually read this before and just forgotten. But still, I liked it. The romance can be a bit cheesy at times.
Married to the Viscount by Sabrina Jeffries: 4 stars, Definitely my favourite of the series. I really liked Abigail, the main character and whilst Spencer was beyond frustrating at times he grew on me.
The Impersonator (Roaring Twenties Mystery, #1)Texts from Jane Eyre: And Other Conversations with Your Favorite Literary CharactersTo Catch a Rake (The Rake's Handbook, #3)A Gentleman's Game (Romance of the Turf, #1)Velvet Undercover
The Impersonator by Mary Miley: 3 stars, I loved the atmosphere and the main character, as well as a couple of the side characters but there was a really awkward romance and the mystery was ridiculously easy to solve. I did enjoy it though and I will probably read the sequel at some point!
Texts From Jane Eyre by Mallory Ortberg: 4.5 stars, Really, really funny. Fortunately there were only a few references to books I hadn't read - and those were still funny. So I loved this.
To Catch a Rake by Sally Orr: 2.5 stars, I don't know. This was sweet but I felt really disconnected from the characters and the romance. The history elements were great I just needed more of something.
A Gentleman's Game by Theresa Romain: 4 stars, A potential new favourite romance author? I really liked all the characters and the plot kept me interested the whole way through.
Velvet Undercover by Teri Brown: 4 stars, I love books about spies. There was so much hidden motives and dubious characters and I loved that I never knew who to trust. The romance did feel a bit rushed and was definitely on the insta-love side for me but I liked the ending.
Hold Me Like a Breath (Once Upon a Crime Family, #1)Someone Else's Fairytale (Someone Else's Fairytale, #1)The Bet (The Bet, #1)Famous in LoveTruly, Madly, Famously (Famous in Love, #2)
Hold Me Like a Breath by Tiffany Schmidt: 4 stars, I actually found myself liking this more than I thought I would. There wasn't as much crime as I wanted and there was a little more romance but otherwise I really liked it. I will have a full review up for this on Thursday!
Someone Else's Fairytale by E.M. Tippetts: 3.5 stars, I really liked how thoroughly non-stressful this turned out to be. The blurb's talk of dark secrets from the past worried me but nope. Just happy endings and fairytales. And the sweetest romance I've read in a long time. I did not remotely like Matthew though. So glad he vanished fairly early on.
The Bet by Rachel Van Dyken: 2.5 stars, This was a very escapist romance and I didn't dislike it but it got a little too cheesy for me by the end. And they rushed the relationship so, so much.
Famous in Love by Rebecca Serle: 3.5 stars, So much love triangle. So, so much. I really like all the characters and the fame elements.
Truly, Madly, Famously by Rebecca Serle: 4 stars, I actually really liked how the love triangle went in this one. Or at least towards the end. There was a lot of annoying prevarication at the beginning but by the end I was so on board. Also - Alicia is my favourite! Can she have her own series? Because I kind of adore her. I will have a joint review for these two up next week.

Classics Update:
The Turn of the ScrewThe Hunchback of Notre-Dame
Ann: I've only read the beginning of this so far but I like it so far.
Clare: I am making good progress with The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and I am currently on page 192. I love Victor Hugo's writing and despite how lengthy his books are they aren't boring which is great.
