Bout of Books Wrap-Up

Ann:

Songs About a GirlFamous in LoveTruly, Madly, Famously (Famous in Love, #2)The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak
They All Fall DownThe Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. HydeMy Life Next DoorWhat I Thought Was True
I definitely did a lot better this week than I expected to! I was only expecting to finish maybe 1 or 2 books and instead I finished 8 which I'm super proud of! I've been in a very contemporary mood at the moment which makes for some quicker reads which are good at this time when I am preparing for my exams!

Totals for the week:
8 books completed
2668 pages read

Clare:

OriginVitro (Corpus, #2)Kalahari (Corpus, #3)Duels and Deception
Crimson and BoneMaplecroft (The Borden Dispatches, #1)The Dead HouseMissing
Till DeathI Want It That Way (2B Trilogy #1)As Long As You Love Me (2B Trilogy, #2)The Shape of My Heart (2B Trilogy #3)
Guys! Guys what the heck? How did I read 12 books in one week? This is pretty much how many books I read in the WHOLE OF APRIL. I am baffled but happy. And so is my TBR pile which now looks considerably less terrifying!! My highlights of the week were definitely Crimson & Bone (for which I will have a review up soon) and the 2B trilogy by Ann Aguirre which are just outstanding New Adults - skipping so many of the cliches that usually annoy me!

Totals for the week:
12 books completed
4425 pages read

2172 pages read

Clare:

I Want It That Way (2B Trilogy #1)
Yesterday was Eurovision day so I didn't get a lot of reading done! But I Want It That Way totally hooked me and I finished it in just two sittings! Such an incredibly good book!

Totals for the week so far:
10 books completed
3741 pages read

Bout of Books Day 5 Wrap Up

Ann:

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Today I read The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde for school. I also read 50 pages of In the Name of Love by Louise Lee but discovered I am in the wrong mood for it right now so put it aside!

Totals for the week so far:
6 books completed
1778 pages read

Clare:

The Dead HouseMissingTill Death
Do you know how much reading you get done when you can't go home till your Mum finishes work? I basically sat in a cafe and read all day. Which is just pretty much the perfect day. The Dead House was great, I saw the twist coming but it totally made sense and was still a great bit of suspense plus I loved how mind twisty it all was. I then read Missing which I really enjoyed, I don't think I loved it as much as I usually love Armstrong's books but it was really, really good and I highly recommend it. And finally I read Till Death which I was kind of disappointed in? I liked the romance but the mystery element was not great. I knew who the "Groom" was from the moment his character (his real character not the serial killer persona) was introduced and from there the mystery failed to engage me.

Totals for the week so far:
9 books completed
3389 pages read

Bout of Books Day 4 Wrap Up

Ann:

The Improbable Theory of Ana and ZakThey All Fall Down
I finished off The Improbable Theory of Ana & Zak which I loved as the characters were incredible and then picked up They All Fall Down which was so full of suspense I raced through it in almost one sitting!

Totals for the week so far:
5 books completed
1600 pages read

Clare:

Maplecroft (The Borden Dispatches, #1)
Maplecroft was a really good read! I wasn't expecting the supernatural-esque element to it but it worked really well! I do slightly prefer The Chronicles of Lizzie Borden's more complex and actually just straight up bad Lizzie but this was a well written and fun read!

Totals for the week so far:
6 books completed
2181 pages read

Crimson and Bone
Crimson & Bone is my favourite book of the month so far! It was so wonderfully written and atmospheric and intriguing! I will have a full review up for it on the release date which is May 18th!! But I highly, highly recommend this!

Totals for the week so far:
5 books completed
1746 pages read

Bout of Books Day 2 Wrap Up

Ann:

Famous in LoveTruly, Madly, Famously (Famous in Love, #2)
I finished Famous in Love reading at school because it was such a quick read and then I read the sequel Truly, Madly Famously as soon as I got home!

Totals for the week so far:
3 books completed
895 pages read

Clare:

Duels and Deception
I read the first 28 pages of The Pearl Thief before realising that I am in the completely wrong mood for it! Since it's a book I am hugely excited for I have put it to one side for now. I instead picked up Duels & Deception which I really enjoyed. It had a very Georgette Heyer feel to it and whilst it wasn't as fun as the first book I still really liked it.

Totals for the week so far:
4 books completed
1434 pages read

Bout of Books Day 1 Wrap Up

Ann:

Songs About a Girl
Today I finished off Songs About a Girl which I loved although now I am really desperate for the next book! And then I read the first 30 pages of Famous in Love.

Totals for the week so far:
1 book completed
282 pages read

Clare:

OriginVitro (Corpus, #2)Kalahari (Corpus, #3)
Finished Origin by Jessica Khoury. This was a good read though not necessarily as great as I was expecting it to be. Definite hints of insta-love and I cared less about the romance than I did the science elements. I was slightly less interested in Vitro which surprised me as the plot actually originally interested me more. But I felt like, although the action was there, the emotional attachment to the characters wasn't so much. And then the final book in the series Kalahari was definitely my favourite. The action scenes were exciting and the characters were, generally, ones I believed and cared in. The fact that I finished all three books in one day will probably tell you how addictive Khoury's writing is (and also how stupidly can't-leave-the-house ill I am). All in all I had a really great start to Bout of Books!!

Totals for the week so far:
3 books completed
1038 pages read

Bout of Books TBR

Ann:

Songs About a Girl (Songs About a Girl, #1)The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak
I'm not aiming too high this week as I do have a lot of exam prep to be doing but I am currently reading Songs About a Girl and really enjoying it (although not loving the love triangle) and I'd also like to read The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak. When I finish these if I have time I will probably just pick up whatever book interests me the most?

Clare:

The Pearl ThiefDuels and DeceptionCrimson and BoneMaplecroft (The Borden Dispatches, #1)
The Dead HouseMissingTill DeathFire in You (Wait for You, #6)
I am aiming high (higher than I can actually reach if we're honest) but I have a lot of books I am really excited to read soon and choosing between them is so hard! I am probably most excited for The Pearl Thief and Maplecroft. Elizabeth Wein is a favourite author of mine and Lizzie Borden is so, so fascinating to me! I am also aiming to write 1-2 book reviews this week. Crimson and Bone and Fire in You are both books I received from publishers and am super intrigued by!

Bout of Books Wrap Up

Ann:

The Creeping Shadow (Lockwood & Co. #4)Game of Fear
I met my target of two books and enjoyed both of them - although I think The Creeping Shadow was my favourite. I did better than I expected to given that I am currently taking exams.

Totals:
2 books completed
1008 pages read

Clare:

An Inquiry Into Love and DeathSilence for the DeadThe Other Side of Midnight
The Trouble with Dukes (Windham Brides, #1)The Viscount and the Vixen (Hellions of Havisham, #3)The Art of Sinning (Sinful Suitors, #1)Visions of Heat (Psy-Changeling, #2)
I had a very romance heavy Bout-of-Books this time around. The first three by Simone St. James were all re-reads and I loved them. I enjoyed the rest, I didn't struggle to get through any of them. My favourite (excluding re-reads) was Visions of Heat, the final read. Although I didn't enjoy this as much as the first book in the series it was a great sequel and I am looking forward to continuing the series! Overall I met my targets for the read-a-thon and I enjoyed all my reads so I am pretty happy with this! Can't wait for the next Bout of Books in May!

Totals:
7 books completed
2307 pages read

We also took part in the Book to Movie adaptation challenge which was a lot of fun and which Ann put a great deal of work into! You can check it out here.
