Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice, the idea is to grab a book, turn to page 56 (or 56% in an e-book) and find any sentence (no spoilers!) and then post it. Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are currently reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence and impressions about the book.
Clare:
I am about halfway through The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas and really enjoying it, I will definitely have to extend it into February though. I have also just started Prisoner of Night and Fog by Anne Blankman which I am very excited for as I have heard nothing but great things! If I like it, which I hope I do, I will continue and read Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke.
Book Beginning:
"Gretchen Muller peered through the car's rain-spotted windshield. Up ahead, a man was crossing the street, so far away he was little more than a child's cutout stick figure of spindly legs and arms and head." - Prisoner of Night and Fog
Friday 56:
"Her breath caught. A hole, on the back of the shirt, where her father's shoulder blades would have been. A bullet hole." - Prisoner of Night and Fog
I've been to see someone I actually trust the opinion of to read the Blankman books! Can't wait to see what you think! This week I'm using a middle grade book that I started reading and got yelled at for by my son ;)

I really liked the Blankman books. I thought the second one wasn't as good but the first was very compelling and offered a very different perspective, she has definitely done her research as well!
DeleteI've been wanting to read this one! It sounds amazing and The Count of Monte Cristo is on my One Day list. Enjoy your reading!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed them, still going with The Count of Monte Cristo. It's long but I think it's worth it!
DeleteI haven't heard of those books by Blankman. I'll be eager to see if they are good. I am spotlighting Blood Cross by Faith Hunter this week. Look for my review tomorrow. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThey were very good, I do recommend them. I have heard of Faith Hunter but never read anything by her so will definitely check out your review!
DeleteHow come I have never heard of these books. They look great. Here's my Friday Book Confession
ReplyDeleteI'd heard a few people praising them and they sounded amazing so I had to try them - and they were very good!
DeleteIntriguing snippets. I love the descriptive writing. Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteThe writing was great, Anne Blankman did a lot of research and it really made the story feel realistic.
DeleteVery intriguing!! Sounds like a good read! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed them. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteGood beginning!
ReplyDeleteI read COMC a few years back and absolutely loved it. I read it with my ears. Those huge classics are easier for me as audio books.
Thanks for joining in on BBOF!
I feel the same way about non-fiction so I know what you mean! I haven't tried audio books of classics yet so I will definitely do that.
DeleteI like the beginning and the 56! Here's my Friday meme
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting!
