Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice, the idea is to grab a book, turn to page 56 (or 56% in an e-book) and find any sentence (no spoilers!) and then post it. Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are currently reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence and impressions about the book.
Ann:
I have decided to start re-reading The Willows in Winter as my Christmas book for December. I am also still reading my Classic book for the month which is Daisy Miller by Henry James.
Book Beginning & Friday 56:
""O my!" murmured Mr Mole of Mole End most unhappily as he stoked up his coal fire against the bitter December night. "O dear!" - Page 1, The Willows in Winter
"He soon found that his arsenal consisted of one fountain pen, a silver fruit knife (the one with a shell handle that had been his mother's) a handkerchief and, ow! a large safety pin!" - Page 56, The Willows in Winter
I love it. I also love the detail. I have already read this once before and I loved it then so I can't wait to enjoy it again.
Clare:
I've started Infinityglass by Myra McEntire which is book 3 in the Hourglass series, I have reviews up for the first two books Hourglass and Timepiece and I am excited to complete the series and find out what happens. I am then planning to read The Infinite Loop which is a bind up of the first 3 volumes in the series. I have been wanting to read this for a while, I have had a flip through and liked the artwork so I hope I will enjoy it. I am also still reading my Classic from November which is The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, I am enjoying this but progressing very slowly.
Book Beginning & Friday 56:
""The only reason you want my help is so you can see my girls in a corset," I said." - Page 1, Infinityglass
"I stared at the dragonfly, still bumping against the glass. You'd think it would've given up by now." - Page 56, Infinityglass
Both of these quotes are from Hallie's perspective and she is a character we haven't met before in the series so I hope I like her. Although it does look like the book will have different perspectives which is new since both the first and the second book were told from a first person perspective of one character, though a different character for each book. So I hope it's done well!
The Willows in the Winter has lovely descriptive writing.
ReplyDeleteCatchy snippet from Infinityglass.
I know it is so amazing. I love it! Thanks for visiting!
DeleteAll of the books seem really interesting. Thanks for sharing! :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope you found a few to add to yours TBR. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteIt is balmy summer here in South Africa, so The Willows in Winter would be a great antidote to all that. The writing is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is like this all the way through I love it! Thanks for visiting!
DeleteBoth books sound good. I haven't started the hourglass series yet but have seen it around. I am spotlighting both and alternate history book - The Inquisitor's Apprentice by Chris Moriarty - and a thriller - She Can Kill by Melinda Leigh - today. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteWow that is a lot of books. I used to read many books at a time but I stopped cause it confused me. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteI haven't read either of these books but they sound interesting and very descriptive. Here's my Friday Meme post
ReplyDeleteI love books with good description because it helps to imagine things. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteI didn't realize there was another Willow's tale. I'd love to read it. All of these are new to me except for the classic. Which I read so long ago.
ReplyDeleteHere's my 56 - http://fuonlyknew.com/2015/12/04/the-friday-56-87-shadows/
I hope you get to read it and enjoy it. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteI've never read any Henry James though I want to. I didn't realize there was a sequel to A Wind in the Willows! Sounds like a lovely Christmas book.
ReplyDeleteIt is brilliant and not really a typical Christmas book which is amazing!
DeleteI've only read Hourglass, but this series has some of the best covers I've seen. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love the covers! I am looking forward to putting them on my "beautiful covers" shelf!
DeleteI've really want to read the Hunchback of Notre Dame! I hear it's pretty good.
ReplyDeleteIt's a little heavy to read, I definitely don't think I could read huge chunks of it at a time but the characters and description are brilliant!
DeleteSome great looking books. I love the creepy cover for Infinityglass.

ReplyDeleteCheck out my Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings), Music Monday, and TTT.
It's a great series, I have reviews up for each of the books in the series now. It's sort of time travel with some other assorted powers in there as well!
