Wednesday Catch-Up 14th September 2016

Every Wednesday we are linking up with WWW Wednesday. WWW Wednesday is hosted at Taking on a World of Words and asks 3 questions: What are you currently reading?, What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you'll read next?

Ann:

Currently Reading:
Beauty Queens
I am only reading one book at the moment and that is Beauty Queens which I am really enjoying and so far I am really liking the characters. It's sort of like Lord of the Flies only way more enjoyable.

Recently Finished:
Lord of the Flies
Recently I finished Lord of The Flies which I really didn't enjoy at all but I had to read it for English homework.

Planning to Read Next:
The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic (Shopaholic, #1)
Next I am planning on reading The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic which I am very excited to read and will hopefully get through quickly. I read and loved I've Got Your Number last year so I am sure I will enjoy this one.

Clare:

Currently Reading:
After AliceThe Hypnotic City
I haven't actually started it yet but After Alice is next on my review pile and will be my definite next read for bus journeys. My current e-book read is The Hypnotic City. I am only a couple of chapters in but so far I really like Philomena's perspective although it does lack the threat that made The Heartless City so great.

Recently Finished:
You And Me, AlwaysIn the Month of the Midnight Sun
The first book I read this week was You and Me, Always by Jill Mansell which was such a lovely, heart-warming read. I loved the characters and I was kept reading by the engaging story. I then read In the Month of the Midnight Sun by Cecilia Ekback. There is an excellent sense of quiet menace present in this, although not a lot is happening (apart from the triple murder at the beginning) its a very tense read and definitely gripping. Of the three perspectives I definitely prefer Magnus. He offered a rational and reassuring viewpoint amidst the otherworldly eeriness.

Planning to Read Next:
The UnseeingFellDon't Let Go (Hope, #6)
Next up I will be reading two very appropriate for Halloween books (I am already in the Halloween spirit). The Unseeing has a creepy cover and a promise of murders and mystery within. I am definitely very excited for this one. Slightly more ambiguous is Fell, the plot of which I am a bit unsure of but the cover is definitely Halloween-y in my opinion so it works. Finally, as a break from all the murder and creepiness I am planning to read Don't Let Go by Jaci Burton which looks like a light and fun read.

You can also find us on Goodreads (Ann and Clare) to keep up with what we are reading

  1. Beauty Queens looks good, it's funny I've seen that cover many times but it was only recently someone pointed out that the ammunition belt was lipstick not bullets. Never really noticed that before lol.

  4. Beauty Queens looks good. I just read the first comment about the bullets and had to check the cover again. I really thought its bullets. I have heard about Lord of Flies though yet to read it. Glad it was a good read for you.

I really like Sophie Kinsella's books and absolutely loved the Shopaholics series. Enjoy all your books this week. Happy reading!

  5. The cover for After Alice looks gorgeous! <3 I'm also sorry to hear you didn't enjoy Lord of The Flies at all. Maybe some day you'll come back to it and like it :) Books you HAVE to read for school come with kind of a negative taste from the start - it was like that for me at least :)

    1. I found that a lot in school as well - but then in College it was the opposite, I am really fond of every book I studied in College! After Alice has such a gorgeous cover but I didn't like the story which was a shame!

  6. I haven't read that shopaholic book...and while I got tired of the previous books in the series after a while, this one looks like a unique spin. Thanks for sharing, and enjoy!

    1. This is an alternative title for the first book in the series, I think it has a different US title? I enjoyed the first few books but eventually wanted the series to come to an end.

  7. I'm glad 'Beauty Queens' is fun. I read Bray's 'The Diviners' and wondered how her other novels would be. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

    1. If you enjoyed The Diviners then her Gemma Doyle series would probably be a good place to start for her other novels? I've enjoyed every one of her books so far and I am desperate for the rest of The Diviners series!
