Sunday Post 13th March 2016

The Sunday Post STSmall_thumb[2]
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted at Caffeinated Book Reviewer, it's a chance to post a recap on the past week, show the books we have received and share what we plan for the coming week. Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews and the aim is to show our newest books and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops or downloaded on to their e-reader. As always you can click on any of the pictures to be taken to the Goodreads page for that book if you're interested in finding out more about it.

Last Week on the Blog:

Books We Got This Week:

Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices #1)The Steep and Thorny WayThe Girl from Everywhere (The Girl From Everywhere, #1)
Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare: I have already read this (of course) and you can see a brief overview of my thoughts down below. Ann and I will be posting a joint review of this shortly.
The Steep & Thorny Way by Cat Winters: I love all of Cat Winters books so my hopes for this are sky high!
The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig: I am very excited for this. I don't know that much about it except it involves time travel and possibly pirates? I've heard good things.
The Indomitable TenPrincess of TyroneKarma Patrol
Curiosity Quills were kind enough to send me e-book copies of the following three books for review so thank you very much to them!
The Indomitable Ten by Various Authors: This sounds very interesting to me. The only author I know from these is Jesse Baruffi but I really enjoyed his book Otto Von Trapezoid and the Empress of Thieves so I have high hopes for that story at least!
Princess of Tyrone by Katie Hamstead: Fairytales and badass heroines and a beautiful cover. What's not to love?
Karma Patrol by Kate Miller: I really love this cover and the plot. I am very excited to read this one.

Reading Update:

Ann:
The Secrets of Drearcliff Grange SchoolScarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2)These Vicious Masks (These Vicious Masks, #1)
The Secrets of Drearcliff Grange School: 4 stars, Loved the character and the way they developed. I also liked the fact that it was basically two seperate stories that were entwined together.
Scarlet: 4 stars, Confusing in places, but loved the way the author has combined all of our favourite fairy tales into one modernized series which is amazing.
These Vicious Masks: 4 stars, amazing book, could have read it all in one go if not for the fact that I had to build my twin a new bed which took longer than we thought it would.

Clare:
Rebel Mechanics (Rebel Mechanics, #1)Curio (Curio #1)Revenge and the Wild
Rebel Mechanics by Shanna Swendson: 3.5 stars, Enjoyable if very light. It's quite a short book and the magic and characters never felt fully fleshed out but I am hopeful there will be more of that in any sequels and I definitely want to continue the series.
Curio by Evangeline Denmark: 2.5 stars, I thought this was nice I just found myself skipping sections at times and then having to go back which was a shame. Not sure if I would read any sequels.
Revenge and the Wild by Michelle Modesto: 3.5 stars, I didn't love this as much as other Westerns I've read recently - and I think if I had read it first I would have maybe enjoyed it more. It was a great read though, plenty of twists and excitement and I loved how ruthless Michelle Modesto was with her characters!
Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices #1)Grace & Style: The Art of Pretending You Have ItStars Above (The Lunar Chronicles)
Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare: 5 stars, I've been waiting for this so long that I am so relieved I loved it. It was emotional and funny and so much action and that ending makes me want so much more!
Grace & Style The Art of Pretending You Have It by Grace Helbig: 5 stars, I love Grace Helbig and I absolutely flew through this. It was very funny and oddly informative!
Stars Above by Marissa Meyer: 4 stars, I loved being back in this world. Most of the stories were kind of origin stories for each of the main characters of the series. Then there was one about a whole new character which seemed to me to be a Little Mermaid retelling and finally, my favourite - the sequel story which I definitely do not want to spoil for anyone but I loved it.

  1. I kind of felt the same as you with Rebel Mechanics. It was good, but the magical elements definitely needed some work. I really want to read Revenge and the Wild!
